Rebecca Belmore uses Fidelis’s full range of services for her art exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery

June 7 to October 5th

Rebecca Belmore comprises a selection of work that spans the course of her significant career, drawing out connections between early performances and later sculptures, photographs and videos through recurring metaphors that are as provocative as they are poignant. In Belmore’s work, the classical reclining figure, for example, is bound in cloth, suspended or scarred, disrupting an otherwise passive gaze and asking viewers to reflect on their relationship to the practice of looking.

Working with the talented Rebecca Belmore for many years now, the Fidelis team jumped to the opportunity to assist her with creating several new pieces for this exhibition. Several media were needed to get her desired results.

Watch for this 32x96” backlit print. Printed to a unique specialty media that allows for the image to be viewed under both lit and unlit conditions. Four other new pieces at 30x40”, will be displayed as diptychs. Mounted to “Megabond” and laminated in high gloss. The exhibit also features three pieces printed to Arches textured watercolour.

A special thank you to Rebecca for allowing us to be apart of this exciting exhibition.

Fred Herzog In Paris

June 26 to Sept 12, 2008

If you are looking for another reason to visit Paris, we can help!

The Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris, in collaboration with Equinox Gallery (Vancouver, Canada), presents the first solo exhibition in Europe by German-born photographer, Fred Herzog who immigrated to Canada in 1953. This European premiere follows the showing of Vancouver Photographs, the successful retrospective exhibition of the artist’s work presented at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 2007. The photographs of Fred Herzog were shown at ARCO this year by Trepanier Baer Gallery (Calgary) and were presented at two major exhibitions this past spring, at the Equinox Gallery and at the Laurence Miller Gallery in New York.

2007 An Exciting Year In Review

January 2007 started with the completion of printmaking for Fred Herzog's landmark exhibition "Vancouver Photographs” at the Vancouver Art Gallery. A project that accumulated more than a hundred hours, consisting of 150+ images, which boasted record attendance for the VAG. The success of the exhibition was further seen with huge sales of the exhibition book, which used Fidelis source digital files, is now going into its third print run.

Douglas Curran's "The Village Is Tilting—Aids in Malawi”, opened at the UBC Museum of Anthropology in February for a six-month engagement. Powerful, life-size portraits, mounted to Diabond aluminum, created a huge impact with the audience.

By Spring Fidelis’ art prints were on their way to London, England with Michael Elkan and John Horton. Michael’s photographic exhibition at the Belgravia Gallery was the first of two projects sent to England in 2007— followed by John Horton’s “Captain Vancouver 250th Anniversary” art collection, which is now a permanent educational display at King’s Lynn in Norfolk, England.

Several other high profile imaging projects with notables Ian Wallace, Rebecca Belmore, and Robert Keziere rounded out the production calendar. They have further secured Jan and Alan's expertise as Master Printmakers and Photoshop gurus.

Our summer was dedicated to printing Roy Arden's October solo exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery. This exhibition presented a mid-career overview of work from the early 1980s to the present, consisting of more than sixty large-scale works printed and mounted at Fidelis.

Introducing our New Staff Member
January brought a new edition to the Fidelis team—a 64" EPSON 11880 printer. It’s true continuous-tone quality and impressive shadow-to-highlight detail is perfect for even the supplest tonal ranges. It’s new print head technology has also virtually eliminated metamerism and bronzing from basic pigment chemistry.

The 11880 was immediately put to task printing Roy Arden's "The World etc..." which is currently on exhibition at Monte Clark Gallery. We encourage you all to stop in and see Roy’s unique collages.

New Projects
If you have a project in development, please feel free to book an appointment with us to learn about new media, mounting techniques and most importantly the features of our new printer.

We'd love the opportunity to show you what we've been working on!

Roy Arden at the VAG

October 20, 2007 to January 20, 2008

Once again Fidelis is very proud to be the printmaker of choice for Roy Arden's solo exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Featuring nearly one hundred, large-scale photographs, this show is worth your attention!

Over the past two decades, Roy Arden has become one of Canada’s most respected artists. His work has significantly contributed to Vancouver’s reputation as an important centre for contemporary photographic art. This exhibition will survey Arden’s work from the early 1980s to the present. It will encompass the lyrical colour imagery of Arden’s early Fragments project, his work with archival images from the late 1980s as well as the more recent photographs of the contemporary urban environment that register the transformative effects of modernity as they are revealed through the experience of everyday landscape. The exhibition will also include video works and a recent web-based project. An illustrated catalogue with essays by Dieter Roelstraete, Russell Ferguson and other writers will be co-published with Douglas & McIntyre.
